Jennifer the Pilates instructor is buff. She is a tanned and perfectly shaped 20-something. When people speak of Jennifer it is always with admiration because she is knowledgeable, strong and so damn cute (she is even shorter than I am).
 
When I say that I am going to Jennifer's Pilates class people ask, ‘Which Jennifer?’ because there is another Pilates instructor named Jennifer. This other Jennifer is a long, lean, former ballerina. So when I reply either ‘Buff Jennifer’ or ‘Ballerina Jennifer’ they understand. Ballerina Jennifer is not diametrically opposed to Buff Jennifer, though she is quieter, taller and more refined in her motions. So although Buff Jennifer does mountain climbing, has curly blond hair and is ‘perky’ while the dark-haired Ballerina Jennifer goes to the opera, is older and more reserved, they are both equally good Pilates instructors.

The substitute Pilates instructor is an older woman named ‘Morning Star’ so there is no confusion with the Jennifers. My confusion comes with what to call her sometimes... ‘Good morning Morning!’ ‘Great class Miss Star!’ My Tai Chi instructor was ‘Starfire’ and that is what I simply called him. I am not sure what the preoccupation is with celestial names in Berkeley.

I'll save Stephanie the Pilates/kickboxing instructor for another time. But for now I'll just say she looks like a black Arnold Schwarzenegger.
