Judgment
Day
by
Lois Lay Castiglioni and Don Castiglioni When Pierre knocked at the Pearly Gates St. Peter asked him, “Why are you so late? Your three score and ten have long since passed What have you been doing, if I may ask?” Why, I’ve been down in New Orleans Living high on fine French cuisine. At K Paul’s Kitchen I’m a familiar sight I was dinning there almost every night. Ate Jambalaya, Craw Fish Pie, and Etouffèe Then topped that off with a Crème Brulèe Kept it up till I was passed ninety three Because rich food agreed with me. My good friend Jim was a fitness freak When we went out he was afraid to eat. We were only thirty-three when he expired Jogged into a streetcar named Desire. Then I made my mind up right snappy A man can eat healthy or he can eat happy So for years I kept eating at K Paul’s place And I died there with a smile on my face! They carted me down to Elysian Fields With Pete Fountain playing and all the frills Shoved me in a tomb then chiseled in bold Old Pierre’s motto: Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez St. Peter checked his book from beginning to end Then said, “Why dining at K Paul’s ain’t no sin But our Heavenly Hash just can’t compare You watch the gate while I drop in there. |
