REASONABLY, YOU CAN’T PUT

A BARN RAISING IN THE MAIL

by Jnana Hodson

            To my eyes

            they’re the most beautiful

the U.S. Postal Service has issued

yet the absurdities

of affixing Amish quilt stamps

on envelopes to pay off

            auto insurance

            natural gas

            credit cards

            car payments and gasoline

            telephone

            Internet server

            cable television

            and similar debts

should be apparent.

Eliminate such contemporary particulars,

yes, we’d save plenty

            for kerosene and

            horse feed, instead.

Later, applying

the Houdini commemorative, I see:

Now there’s one that suits

vanishing money.
