            circus freak

          by Amanda Dawkins

thank god for little boys
who grow up as individuals
in a society of circus clowns
who flop around in their oversized garb,
ridiculing anything in their path.

thank god for little boys
who are not afraid to be labeled a freak
as they headline the show.

go head, boy.

acrobats don't got nothing on you
as you soar to heights
not even dumbo has seen.
